    First line of attack is to disable the smtp daemon until this is
    concluded (that is, if you haven't already).

    I am a big fan of qmail / ucspi-tcp solution.

    qmail is one of the most secure and stable MTAs available, and with
    ucspi-tcp, you have the ability to setup smtp relaying based on
    specific rules (much like inetd configurations, but much more
    versatile).

    The options available to you with qmail / ucspi-tcp are numerous. Your
    best option is to check out http://www.lifewithqmail.org. your fastest
    option is to pay an experienced professional to get you going properly.
