One thing that wasn't pointed out was the use of
MAC-address restrictions. I know that the D-Link and
LinkSys WAP-11 systems support this. If you're a home
user, you probably have a manageable number of
machines you're using, so collect the MAC addresses of
those systems and put them into the config of your
WAP.
This is also recommended, if manageable, for corporate
users. Some corporations, both big and small, have
WAPs...and the laptops set up w/ wireless cards all
need to go through a single department. This way, the
MACs are easily collected, and as long as the process
is in place, it shouldn't be a problem.
