I am currently in the process of evaluating some commercial tools.
NetRecon-From Symantec, Retina-From eEYE, CyberCop etc.

I have an interesting .pdf which I will forward on with regards an
"independant" review carried out my a well known magazine.

As for freeware, I cannot recommend highly enough Languard from gfisoft.com.
It is great. I use it with my home ADSL line, you would be amazed at the
idiots out there with no protection at all in place.

I will forward on details of the report to anyone interested.
