Uhhh... why not just use WEP?

Yes, I know WEP is mostly broken... but let's take a look at the odds.

Let's assume your neighbors have a laptop with a wireless card. Odds
that one of your neighbors would use your non-WEP'd wireless AP:
perhaps 1 in 5? Odds that one of your neighbors would try and crack
your the key of your WEP'd network: perhaps, at the very worst, 1 in
100?

Are your neighbors linux/BSD geeks? What is the threat level here? Are
there guys outside your house with directional antennas pointed at it?
