Hey there,

I'm looking for a device that can monitor RS-232 without interrupting the
existing communications. To be exact, our customer has some cash registers
connected to PC's over RS-232. I know there are software solutions to
monitor the RS-232, but the problem is the cash software already has the COM
port open so it won't run. We need to monitor it so we can check against
cash register fraude (i.e. employees stealing money by selling items to
customers and then back up the sale). So what we're looking for is some sort
of device that can be hung between the PC and the cash register and that
sort of dupes the traffic to either a second RS-232 or on to a LAN
connection (100baseT). Ofcourse this device shouldn't allow the second
RS-232/LAN connection to interfear with the data between cash register and
PC. Been searching on the web for a while now and e-mailed some companies
that produce RS-232 stuff I've never heard of but I haven't been succesful
in finding anything that does what we want and I was hoping some of you know
where we can get it.

TIA

Kind regards,

Ferry van Steen
