We've decided to go down the *nix root for the server (we're predominatly a Windows house but some of us want to try and 'kick the habit' so to speak). At the moment it'll probably be linux as it's easy to install but we're also looking at OpenBSD as it's 'secure by default'.
From all posts (cheers everyone) it looks like ssh with scp/sftp seems the best option.
