ipchains

I have a problem with Redhat linux 7.2.
I have installed ipchains now I want to create some chains so that
the client machines can use the linuxbox as a router I did the
following.

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
So far no problem

Than I want to add a chain as followd.
ipchains -A forward -s 10.1.1.2/24 -d 0.0.0.0/0 -j MASQ

But than I got the following error
ipchains: protocol unknown
