you need to put a hub between the switch and router, just any old hub will
do fine, plug the switch into the hub, then uplink the hub to the router,
plug your surf control machine into the hub as well. it can't see anything
on the switch except it's own port, which is why it's not working. by
forcing all output from the switch to go through the hub, you are making it
where the surf control system can see the packets, thereby it can interject
like it is suppose to. this will also make it where the surf control machine
only has to deal with traffic going outside your network or to the internet,
and won't interfere with any internal web you may have.
hope that help, if you need further assistance let me know

Subject: Setting up a Proxy Server..

Hi! We have one Windows 2000 server and 30 Windows 98 client machines
connected directly to a switch. We connect to the net using a D-Link DI 300
ISDN Router which also serves as NAT. We are connected to the net using a
64 Kbps dial-up ISDN connection.

We are planning to implement SurfControl in our office to monitor the web
usage of our employees. Since the internet requests from all the machines
goes directly via the switch to the router, this software is not able to
track any requests.

Would be thankful if somebody can help me understand setting up a proxy
server in this network setup.

Thanks in advance.

Oswald
