perhaps you can try the following tools:

win:
- netstumbler: www.netstumbler.com (Orinoco - chipset)
- apsniff: http://www.bretmounet.com/ApSniff/ (prism2)

linux:
- kismet: http://www.kismetwireless.net/ (prism2, cisco)
- wellenreiter: http://www.remote-exploit.org/ (prism2, cisco)
