RE: Help needed

Yes, but if the new account they created is truly a member of the
Administrators group, they can bring up the Computer Management console,
go to Local Users and Groups, find the original Administrator account
under Users, and reset its password to a new, known value.

If for some reason your friend can't do that, then my advice is to
download a copy of the Nordahl boot CD-ROM image. I've used this disk to
reset the Administrator password to blank and recover access to several
different machines (including a wedged domain controller).

I won't get into the mechanics of trying to recover data from an Outlook
profile as a different user, since a) it can get somewhat messy
depending on the configuration (going vs. Exchange or local folders?
Cached mode Exchange?) and b) it doesn't solve the larger issue of
regaining control of the Admin account.

No. That's the password that they changed and cannot remember.

Has your friend reset the password on the *original* administrator
account and logged on as that account?

Hi All.
Hope that someone can save me some time and reduce some stress.

A friend of mine changed their Administrator password and then
forgot what it was. They called Dell for an assist and Dell
suggested they create another user account with admin privileges.
That worked fine and they were able to get into the system.
HOWEVER, when they tried accessing Outlook, all the email was gone
as well as the address book. They've checked the directories and
done searches (.pab and .pst) and all without success.

Any assistance would be most deeply appreciated.
