Please elaborate on how on Linux you can open a
Microsoft information rights protected document. I
would be interested in finding out. The document is
encrypted at all times no matter where it is stored,
and the IRM server issues a use licence, based on
authentication to AD, and the author giving you rights
to open the document, and then what rights within the
document you have. Without Office 2003 etc you can
only open the document via a IE browser with activex
control installed with read only access.
But as I said before IRM is a security policy not a
mechanism there are always methods to defeat it, and
most of those fall within employment agreements and
legal requirements.
