    Laura,

    I believe the Firewall is disabled by default, do to a German company that
    decided to sue on this particular issue.

    You don't even need Group Policy (not that I'm not a huge proponent of GP
    where it's applicable, mind you). You can create .reg files in about five
    minutes to do all of the possible combinations. This was what I did to
    address machines we had that weren't members of domains (dev boxes). It's
    really, really easy.
