    1. What do you see in event viewer?
    2. What operating system is this? 2000/XP/2003? I ask because depending on
    which it is, there are different tools built into the OS. Check your hard
    drive for either kill.exe or taskkill.exe, and use that to kill the service.
    Then try to start it and check the event logs again.
