I've am happy with Argent Software's argentsoftware.com Argent Guardian.
It is a competitively priced complete network mgt/monitoring package.
It uses mssql and stores snmp, win eventlogs, and win performance
counters. Basically it's like the snmp abilities of openview and CA
with ms product support of netiq and ping monitoring of whatup. We also
use it for SLA's and write custom web reports against the mssql db. We
have configed pager and email alerts on snmp traps and log events. My
only wish is that it had a syslog server to consolidate all my net mon
in the sql server. On a budget, they have just the log consolidation
    part.

    Regards,

    Tom Porter

I am currently administering over 10 server(advanced) and 20 workstation
(pro), The management of event/security/application log has become
unbeareable,so im looking for a centralized management solution were the
informatin would be gather from server/workstation to a specific server,
so the question is: Anyone aware of such a software
that could do the job ? commercial or freeware, I basically just want to
avoid having to walk over to check them manually.

also if anyone who has faced this situation is willing to share
    their knowledge on the subject...

    Thanks
