Corrupt Event Viewer Log Files

Subject: Windows 2000 Application log corruption
heye folks,
I've got a Windows 2000 IIS 5.0 server running SP2.
My problem is that at certain times my Windows 2000 Application log becomes
corrupt.
Any help as to why this may be happening?
Is this possible from an outside tools perspective, to cover ones tracks?
An application erroring enough to corrupt the .evt log file?
tia
