In all likelihood you have updated your system with this patch as you have
said. It may be one of the patches that Microsoft have re-released due to
unspecified errors in the original.

Yes, yes. I know. Unbelievable isn't it. I couldn't believe it myself. But
there it was on their site, plain as day when I was updating a machine at
work.

"If you have already applied this patch, please do so again"

Interesting way to apply security updates and patches. I thought the idea
would have been to apply another patch on top of this one instead of
re-releasing the original. But then again, I don't own a multi-billion dollar
company either!

It's just one possible explanation. Why the windows update from your start
menu missed it and the other didn't I can't explain. Maybe they use different
registry keys to configure from, or different sites to access catalog
information from, its hard to say. Maybe that is one of the bugs they have
fixed, or maybe it's one of the non-critical ones they are waiting to fix.
I'm sure if we were allowed to reverse engineer either to see what was going
on there would be subtle differences, but noone would dare do that in this
day and age!
