Hi
I personally recommend PGPDisk, it's free, for personal use, http://www.pgpi.com, If you are worried about back doors, you can also download the source code. Examine it, build it and use it.
I have successfully tested PGPFW658Win32.zip and pgpdiskhack.zip .
IMHO, source code for security software should always be available for peer review and to check for back doors.
Of course none of this does you any good if choose an easy to guess pass phrase.
