Thank you all for the input. I got several responses, both on-list and
off. The main themes I noticed in the responses are:
1) get a different software
2) I don't want to monitor internal-internal communication
3) Use Exchange 2000 which supports SMTP
4) Support the Exchange directly with one of it's APIs such as AVAPI
5) Tie in with someone like Sybari who handles the API
As for 1), since this is something I am working on developing, this is not
an option -- this particular software provides functionality not available
in other products.
As for 2), the point of this software is to provide some sanity checking
for internal traffic, so that is an important aspect here.
As for 3), that would be very easy...out of curiousity, does anyone have
any figures as to how much of the market is using 5.5 versus 2000? I
suspect this will be removing a large market segment from the product --
but I have been unable to find any figures about this, if anyone has
those, I would much appreciate seeing them.
As for 4), this is an excellent idea, and definitely a future plan. As for
the present time, though, I am hoping for a shorter term solution as well.
As for 5), I will have to research this further to see if this is even
feasible.
So, in summary, thanks for the input. I would definitely like to see some
notes on the market segments of the different versions, if anyone could
send those, it would be great.
