Hello.
Comments on your Qchain.exe part only.

| Lets assume QCHAIN is used. This is now a QCHAIN question. If I do d/l a
| critical update FIRST from windowsupdate, then reboot, and then download a
| security rollup which happens to have XYZ.DLL that is older than an DLL from
| the critical update, and QCHAIN gets run before this next reboot, does
| QCHAIN now know to sort out the DLLs and leave the DLL that was previously
| installed?
This is where catalogue files work. Sometime it is very much
troublesome, though.
Check out sigverif.exe on your Windows 2000/XP node. Heavy
operation, then look through the logfiles. The result shows how
the OS basically checks the catalogue and the actual files.
Another point: Q281767 of KB. That is one reason why qfecheck
and qchain are made.
