I am glad that MS has used the release of Win2K to add software deployment
functionality to their OS.
What bugs me is that they still don't deploy all their soft as .msi
packages.
You can't distribute all your soft, such as Hotfixes, Service Packs,
Language Packs, component updates
or the Internet Explorer via GPO objects. What about soft like frontpage,
project, et al. ?
My question to the experts: would it be possible to
a) call any .exe setup, that has a "hands off"-mode (like IE
packages) directly via goup policy
b) create a dummy .msi package that calls one or more .exe
files in sequence and sets registry values/copies files after that (someone
have one ready?)
c) have microsoft publish all their soft as .msi ?
How do you distribute your software?
- batch files ( with semaphore files? )
- systems management server
- group policy
- third party software
