Lan Auditor 4.5 is also pretty cool. You can run a query on Win32 OS info
and it will give you build and service packs plus a LOT more info. It also
imports into access, so you could end up getting it into a spread***.

We use Track-It! by Blue Ocean Software for all of our computer maintenace.
It has some nifty features (if you want to pay extra for them), some of
which you can demo at their website. It's an inventory and tracking system
(if you couldn't tell) and it's fairly configurable.
As far as the specific task you speak of, Track-It! could be used to do
this, but not in as effective of a way as a simple text file/spread***
that lists the patch, date installed, servername, and reason for installing.
Sometimes the simplest approach is the best approach, and when it comes to
patching servers/machines, I think simple is the best route.

I'm curious to find out what people are using for an audit trail when making
changes on servers.
I have a server farm with several servers and I find it difficult to keep
track of what patches I've applied on what machines and when I applied them.
I've been using a spread*** to keep track of it, but I'm curious to find
out what other people use and how well it works for them.
Does anybody know of any programs that help with this problem? This would
be helpful for managing all machines, not just web servers.
