To be more specific concerning the description ot my problem: I try to
check the local computer - so there are no FW or Gateway problems. I found
out, that I can't open the mssecure.xml with the Internet Explorer. If I
double click on the file there following error message appears: "There was
a problem sending the command to the programm". If I try to open the file
within the Internet Explorer, the IE tries to download the local!! file
mssecure.xml over an over again (endless loop - I have to shut down the
IE). I assume that there are problems the "registred file types" mappings,
but I can't figure out what it is. If I cross check with a system where I
can run the hotfix checker and where I can open the mssecure.xml in the
browser I can't see any differences... Any idea? Thanks. Regards, Tom
Schmidt

I would check the TCP/IP settings of the two machines that are having
problems. I am currently testing the program and I am not having any
issues. First things I would check are the Default Gateway, SubnetMask,
DNS servers. Chris Lynch, MCSE CCNANetwork EngineerChris.lynch@nrtinc.com

focus-ms@securityfocus.comSubject: MS patch-scanner for Win-NT, 2K, IIS,
SQL Hi, I get the following error message (2 out of 3 systems) when I try
torun the MS patch-scanner: <<Start>> hfnetchk -x mssecure.xml Microsoft
Network Security Hotfix Checker, 3.1 Developed for Microsoft by Shavlik
Technologies, LLC info@shavlik.com (www.shavlik.com) Unable to load theXML
file from the following location - mssecure.xml Possiblereasons: -
Your machine is not connected to the network. - The XMLfile is temporarily
unavailable. - The XML file could not be found atthe specified location.
- The XML filename and/or path is not correct.<<End>> I get the same error
message on a W2K Prof. Workstation (SP 2)and on a NT 4 Server (SP6a), but
the scanner works fine on a W2K Server(test server). So the XML file is
downloaded from Microsoft withoutproblems and works fine with the W2K
Server. The possible reasonsmetioned in the error message don't make sense
to me... :-( Any idea howI can get rid of this problem? Any help
appreciated. Regards, TomSchmidt
