Not that I am such a major fan of reading Gartner :-), but here is a link
to its 2H03 IDS magic quadrant, an interesting and somewhat sad piece.

While anti-IDS rhetoric continues (e.g. "IDS vendors that have not
introduced blocking capabilities by the end of 2004 will not be viable
providers beyond the end of 2005.", "does little to protect the
enterprise."), somewhere closer to the end the report authors do say
that everybody should install Snort :-)
