I DO work for a vendor - Cisco Systems. But I'm not going to spread FUD . . . :)
see by yourself - and ask questions to each vendor (Cisco included) after reading this reviews:
Network World, October 2001 - http://www.nwfusion.com/reviews/2001/1008revnetr.html
Network Computing, August 2001 - http://www.networkcomputing.com/1217/1217f1.html
As always, reviews are just that: reviews. make a list of what you need from an IDS, ask each vendor which one of those features the have, and then make your choice . . .
good luck !
