For lack of a detailed explanation, the maintainer is occupied with other
"projects" at the moment. A family member has been attempting to maintain
network connectivity and post some new site additions.
As far as Snort definitions you can still download them from snort.org,
which has the latest official snapshots of the rules, and
silicondefense.com, which also is very up to date with the rules. These
sites keep as much of a maintained database, if not more, than whitehats
did.
