Hi david
Generally:
The first part of (both) the debug tries to tell that some key files are
wrong, where on the first machine it seems to have remaining working
keys and on the second machine we don't have any working key
Later I see the following part on both transactions:
debug1: Offering public key: /.ssh/id_rsa
debug3: send_pubkey_test
debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply
And the next line differs, where on B the server accepts the sendt
publickey and on A nothing happens ... and the client proceeds with the
other possible methods (also failing).
I'm not an expert in this topic, but in case of failure I would also
expect that the Server answers that and I'm missing such a "failed" line
on the debug of the first communication. Is it possible that the Keys on
host A are broken?
Try to copy the keys for verification from B to A and try to check your
key files with the ssl-keygen-tools..

Betreff: Debugging public key authentication problem
I've got a series of systems which are allegedly all configured
identically and should all be able to connect to another system with
public key authentication. However, the first one in the list doesn't
seem to work. Based on the debugging transcripts below, can anyone
please help me understand why "host1" prompts for a password when
connecting to "destIP" and "host2" does not?
Thanks,
jdb
