Hi
        I think you dont know the links to the documentaton so you are
struggling to upgrade the kernel. I will give you some steps which may
help you in upgrading the kernel.
1) firstly extract the kernel whoich you have
#cd /usr/src/
#tar zxvf linux-2.4.4.tar.gz ( if it is in the tar.gz format)
2) Now apply the patch you have, using
#zcat patch-2.4.5.gz | patch -p0
or
#patch -p0 < patch46
if the patch isn't compressed
3) Then as usual steps.
#make config ( in /usr/src/linux directory)
#make dep
#make bzImage
        Still if you have doubts look at the kernel howto in
