Breaking EnCase - Hiding Deleted Files From EnCase
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
<http://www.guidancesoftware.com/products/ef_index.asp> EnCase is "the
industry standard in computer forensic investigation technology". A flaw
in EnCase allows attackers to hide the files they have deleted, and don't
want people to recover, by simply changing a few bytes with WinHex.
DETAILS
By opening the Disk drive with WinHex, and changing the first bytes of the
file entry, i.e. where the name FILE0 is written, to NULL (character 0x00)
it is possible to hide the files from EnCase.
