      Popper Insecure Temporary File Creation
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SUMMARY

    " <http://kpopper.sourceforge.net/> Popper is a very simple, easy-to-use
and functional network messenger." Due to lack of randomness in the names
given to temporary files used by the Popper application local attackers
can gain privileges of other users.

    DETAILS

    Vulnerable Systems:
     * Popper version 1.0 and prior

The vulnerability is caused due to temporary file being created
insecurely. This can be exploited via symbolic-link attacks and in turn to
create and/or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user
    running the affected script.

    Code Snips:
    popper/popper-send.sh:
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "$2" > /tmp/.popper-new
    echo `date +"%a %l:%m %p"` >> /tmp/.popper-new
    cat "$1" >> /tmp/.popper-new
    mv -f /tmp/.popper-new /tmp/.popper

The .popper is also used in popper/popper.cpp.
