Chatman Remote DoS (New User Broadcast)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
" <http://www.vp-soft.com/software/chatman.php> ChatMan provides an
universal solution for communicating within local area network
(intranet)."
A remote attacker can crash ChatMan by sending a packet containing a large
packet size.
DETAILS
Vulnerable Systems:
* ChatMan version 1.5.1 RC1 and below.
Each data block exchanged by Chatman is constituted by a 32 bits number
used to identify the data size. The amount of memory specified by this
number is immediately allocated but if it is too big (and so allocation
fails) the program terminates automatically.
Also if the program uses the TCP protocol is possible to crash any Chatman
host in the LAN simply sending a "new user" broadcast packet, they will
automatically connect to the attacker that can passively exploit the bug
as described previously.
Proof of Concept Code:
Proof of Concept code is available at:

Vendor Status:
No fix is available. Chatman is no longer supported.
