Project IGI 2: Covert Strike Format String
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
<http://www.innerloop.com> Project IGI 2 is a game developed by Innerloop
and released in February 2003. Its creators have defined it as "a tactical
stealth-based FPS with plenty of tension and action".
The IGI multiplayer server suffers from a format string vulnerability when
parsing RCON commands.
DETAILS
Vulnerable Systems:
* Project IGI 2: Covert Strike version 1.31 and prior
While logging RCON commands the multiplayer server won't perform sanity
checks on the received RCON commands. A format string entered as a command
will be logged directly without any filtering. Example:
- Attacker sends: /hello-%08x.%08x.%08x.%08x
- Server logs: ? ?[17:17:28] Consoled:
'hello-082aeefc.00000131.0061b64c.00000011' run from 192.168.0.3:32768
A proof-of-concept example can be found at

http://aluigi.altervista.org/poc/igi2fs.zip which can demonstrate and test
for the vulnerability.
