      Pablo Software Solutions FTP Server File Disclosure
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SUMMARY

     <http://www.pablovandermeer.nl> Pablo's FTP Server is "a multi threaded
    FTP server for Windows 98/NT/XP. It comes with an easy to use interface
    and can be accessed from the system tray. The server handles all basic FTP
    commands and offers easy user account management and support for virtual
    directories". A vulnerability exists in the FTP server that allows a
    malicious attacker to detect if a file exists outside the FTP root
    directory.

    DETAILS

    Vulnerable Systems:
     * FTP Server version 1.77

    Immune Systems:
     * FTP Server version 1.8

    When a user logs to the server, it is possible to issue the command: DEL
    \..\<filename>. If <filename> exists, the FTP server answers "550
    Permission denied". If <filename> doesn't exist, the FTP server answers
    "550 File not found". In both cases, the file cannot be deleted.

    This vulnerability allows checking whether a file exists on a remote
    system or not, this can be useful for:
     * Fingerprint the OS: Each OS has different files installed by default.
    Using this you can know if the remote system is Windows NT/2000/XP
     * Find out which vulnerabilities the system has been patched for by
    testing if the "../WINNT/Q329115.log" file exists (you can know if the
    remote system has this patch installed)

    Vendor Status:
    The vendor has been informed and has solved the problem. To mitigate the
    problem upgrade to version 1.8. The file can be downloaded from:
