Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability Found in TUTOS
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
<http://www.tutos.org/homepage/about.html> TUTOS is a tool to manage the
organizational needs of small groups, teams, departments. Two
vulnerabilities in the product allows attackers to insert malicious HTML
and JavaScript code into existing web pages, or upload files that contain
such malicious content to the server.
DETAILS
By submitting the following URL:
http://[target]/tutos/file/file_select.php?msg=<hostile code>
An attacker can cause the server to return malicious content inside its
server reply.
Further, by using the uploading interface, a user can upload hostile code
to the server, and then point the user to that file (where the hostile
code will be automatically executed). This is done via the upload
interface found in http://[target]/tutos/file/file_new.php?link_id=1065
(example link). After the file is uploaded, the file can be found by
accessing this URL: http://[target]/tutos/repository/[project
number]/[filenumber]/FILE
Solution:
The vulnerability was solved for all new releases. The TUTOS server will
now interpret the <hostile code> as NON-HTML (i.e. disregarding any HTML
or JavaScript code inside it).
Vendor status:
2003-06-20 The vendor has reportedly been notified.
2003-06-23 Response from the vendor with solution.
