Critical Security Hole Found in Macromedia Flash Player
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
Macromedia released a warning acknowledging a security vulnerability found
in their latest Macromedia Flash Player, namely the Macromedia Flash
Player Version 6.
This player is used by more then 75% of internet users, and is the most
salient web browser plugin.
Macromedia deemed this a Critical Security Issue and issued an update,
advising all users to download the update immediately.
The attack allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code outside the
"sandbox" safe zone of the flash player and, possibly, without alerting
the player's user.
DETAILS
Vulnerable versions:
* Macromedia Flash Player prior to version 6,0,79,0
Immune versions:
* Macromedia Flash Player Version 6,0,79,0
The bulletin release is addressing various issues surrounding buffer
overflows
(read/write) and sandbox integrity within the player which might allow
malicious users to gain access to a user's computer. The security patch
issued by Macromedia addresses these issues.
Solution:
Download latest Flash Player from Get Flash Player
