      Multiple Vulnerabilities in Macromedia Flash ActiveX
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SUMMARY

    Macromedia flash ActiveX plugin displays .swf files under Internet
    Explorer. Quoting www.macromedia.com: "Over 97.8% of all web users have
    the Macromedia Flash Player". A Few vulnerabilities were identified in the
    product:

    1) Protected memory reading

    2) Memory consumption DoS

    3) zlib 1.1.3 double free() bug

    4) Buffer overflow in SWRemote parameter provided for the flash object.

    DETAILS

    Vulnerable systems:
     * Macromedia Flash ActiveX 6.0 (6,0,47,0)

    The last bug is very close to the one reported by eEye in <
    http://www.securiteam.com/windowsntfocus/6G00D1560K.html> May. Probably it
    was not found by eEye because the overflow is a heap based, therefore the
    exception is triggered in the free() function.

    This kind of overflows (heap based Unicode overflow) is exploitable under
    Internet Explorer. And exploit code is available at:
    <http://www.security.nnov.ru/files/swfexpl.zip>
    http://www.security.nnov.ru/files/swfexpl.zip

    Vendor response:
    Macromedia was contacted on 23 Oct 2002. A reply was received on 29 Oct
    2002 stating that Macromedia will look into these issues.

    Workaround:
    Disable ActiveX in Internet Explorer or uninstall flash ActiveX.
