Fore/Marconi ATM Switch 'land' Vulnerability
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
Marconi ATM switches has been found to contain a security vulnerability
that would allow a remote attacker able to access the telnet port open by
default on the switch, to cause a denial of service attack.
DETAILS
Vulnerable systems:
* Marconi ForeThought version 6.1.1
* Marconi ForeThought version 7.0.1
Libratory testing indicates that a single 'land' packet sent to the telnet
port (23) of either the inbound or outbound interface will cause the
device to stop responding to ip traffic. Over the course of 6-1/2 minutes,
all CPU will be consumed and device reboots.
Basically a packet is forged with the source and destination IP address
and ports identical.
Vendors status:
The vendor was informed 1 year ago.
