UUCP Command Line Arguments Buffer Overflow
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
A buffer overflow vulnerability in UUCP has been found. The vulnerability
allows an attacker to cause the program to execute arbitrary code, thus
gaining elevated access (when the program has been set setuid uucp, or
root).
DETAILS
Vulnerable systems:
BSDI BSD/OS 4.0.1
BSDI BSD/OS 3.0
Example:
$ /usr/bin/uucp `perl -e 'print "A" x 900'` `perl -e 'print "A" x 900'`
`perl -e 'print "A" x 356'`
As you can notice the return address is writable, and it is marked as 352
- 354 in the third buffer (from left to right).
Since /usr/bin/uucp is by nature suid and the owned by uucp, you would
gain uucp privileges.
