    I should have done a bit more checking before putting this message through.

    Windows Installer 3 v2 was released on the 12th of May. It does not contain a security fix, but instead causes the installer to fail with a message in the event it cannot update protected files (as opposed to it failing silently.) I can understand why MS felt this was critical, but I also understand why it wasn't accompanied by a Security Bulletin...it's not security related.

    FWIW, lots of people said they also received the update overnight.

    Most viruses these days use spoofed email addresses. As such, using an Anti-Virus product which automatically notifies the perceived sender of a message it believes is infected may well cause more harm than good. Someone who did not actually send you a virus may receive the notification and scramble their support staff to find an infection which never existed in the first place. Suggest such notifications be disabled by whomever is responsible for your AV, or at least that the idea is considered.
