Hello all
Pardon me please if having read this list for the last few years doesn't
mean that I know the protocol for tossing out new info here.
I think we found a new bug in SP2 installs.
We are bringing up some new systems here and are installing (bravely) SP2 on
them. We've found that if we install SP2 while the system is set to acquire
IP info through DHCP and then change to a static IP we get the error...
"domain name" not accessible you may not have permission to use this
resource contact your administrator. Network path not found.
...while attempting to browse the network.
Attempts to call specific computers directly through \\Computername works
just fine, but something is choking out the ability to simply browse. All
suggestions for this error which have been listed online are of no use.
However
Changing back to DHCP allows the user to once again browse freely.
If we assign a static IP *Before* we install SP2, the error never occurs.
I've read that SP2 installs one of 2 different versions of Firewall based on
whether you are DHCP or static, but we aren't allowing the firewall (or any
local firewall on the systems) to be active.
Anyone else got anything to add to this?
Signing off
Mitch Stein, Chicago
