    Basically, the offer of the MyDoom/Zindos removal tool seems not to be based on any analysis of your system, its simply offered to everyone (typically, see more below.) The SUS data associated with the tool states;

    "Applies to: Windows 2000 SP2, Windows 2000 SP3, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows Server 2003 family, Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition RTM, Windows XP RTM, Windows XP SP1, Windows XP SP2"

    "This tool helps remove the Mydoom.A, Mydoom.B, Mydoom.E, Mydoom.F, Mydoom.J, Mydoom.L, Mydoom.O, Zindos.A, Doomjuice.A, and Doomjuice.B worms from infected systems. The appearance of this update means that your machine is likely infected with one or more of these worms. For more information on protecting your PC, visit the Microsoft Protect Your PC Web site at www.microsoft.com/protect." This is the only description offered (thanks to Graham L. Giller for the info.)

    Of course this isn't conclusive, one would have to check out the exchange between WU/SUS and the system to know what else it might look for.

    That said, I've had many people report its not being offered to XP Pro systems. In fact, I haven't seen the tool offered to any of my systems here (12 which can manually connect to WU, 3 which do Automatic Updates, and 2 which were participating in the XP SP2 beta program.) None of my systems are XP Home, they're all W2K, XP Pro, or W2K3.

    Weird.
