Don't know if this will be useful for anyone, but what the heck. I
installed XP sp2 on my laptop today and for the most part was fine.
System specs
IBM T41
1.4Ghz
1Gb Ram
34 GB HD
It took about 20 minutes from setup to reboot to login. Longer than I
expected, but I did let it do a full backup prior to install. From a
quick look around there is now a Wireless Network Wizard which looks
promising, but I haven't had the time yet to play with. IR now shows up
as wireless connection (don't know why, but really don't care). Upon
reboot, suggested that I turn on automatic updates, which I didn't,
thank you very much. Also asked if I want the firewall set up on my
network connections. I did not get a chance to play with this today,
but soon.
IE 6 has a popup blocker and an "Information Bar" that appears on
certain sites. Under Tools has a "Manage Add-Ons" which lets you
disable certain items as necessary.
I am Using VMWare Workstation on the laptop for testing and those
dreadful sales calls I get dragged along on. I have had issues today
while building a new VM server that when I reboot it, it freezes on boot
up. This behavior is new, so I will continue to work on that.
The Service pack automatically installed/upgraded to Media Player 9.
Overall, besides the issues with VMWare Workstation, the system did well
today. I have Office 2003, Project 2003, MSSQL 2000 and even a couple
of home grown VFP apps and all behaved.
Good luck
Dave
