    i can verify that e-gold does indeed use wildcard DNS, such that
    *.e-gold.com gets to the e-gold web site. this facilitates the
    shortcut method of using the e-gold Shopping Cart Interface,
    described here: http://sci.e-gold.com
    which allows an e-gold user to accept payment via a link such as:
    http://100998-USD10.e-gold.com
