Warning to anyone planning a rollout of Office 2003 in an Exchange 5.5
    environment.

Our IT department has been piloting Office 2003 for a few months. We're
still running Exchange 5.5 (planning the move to 2003), including our OWA
    server.

Symptom: We had been experiencing unexplained crashes of this OWA server
sporadically during this time. Also, some users are unable to connect to
    OWA.

Cause: Outlook 2003 makes changes to the mailboxes it connects to. Whenever
someone with one of these modified mailboxes tries to connect through OWA,
it can cause the OWA server to crash. There is a fix available for the
Exchange 5.5 OWA servers affected from Microsoft Product Support Services.

    NTBugtraq Editor's Note:

Most viruses these days use spoofed email addresses. As such, using an Anti-Virus product which automatically notifies the perceived sender of a message it believes is infected may well cause more harm than good. Someone who did not actually send you a virus may receive the notification and scramble their support staff to find an infection which never existed in the first place. Suggest such notifications be disabled by whomever is responsible for your AV, or at least that the idea is considered.
