Hi list,
I just wanted to share a few observations about eTrust
personal
security package:
Computer Associates (CA) recently released a bundle of
personal firewall and antivirus software. The bundle
is called
eTrust EZ Armor and contains eTrust EZ Personal
Firewall
and eTrust EZ Antivirus.
The bundle is free for one year, including AV and FW
updates.
Also, Microsoft has added the product to the list of
personal
firewalls on their security web page (with a free 12
months remark)
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/windows2000/firewall.asp
More on that you can find here
http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2003/1120comdeca.html?nl
including a little bit nervous comment from Symantec's
CEO
John Thompson.
What is the most interesting though, is that eTrust EZ
Personal Firewall
is rebranded ZoneLab's Zone Alarm Pro. They did not
try to camouflage
it much so the GUI is almost the same, they just
replaced brand references.
Still, some references to ZoneLabs can be found in log
files, etc.
Users who get eTrust EZ Armor will get the same
personal
firewall that it would otherwise cost them $39.95 if
they bought
it from Zone's web site.
-Rob.
