FWIW, I have had many reports from people that using the Google Toolbar to block pop-ups is effective at blocking this latest IE example exploit, as well as many others. Let's not get too comfortable thinking that such things can block all potential incarnations, but they do seem to help. I personally use the Google Toolbar and have been very pleased.
Also, I've been told that, at least, F-Secure and McAfee detect the example as malware. Both detections *seem* to be heuristic, which would be a very good thing.
Remember, enable your AV to scan all files/content, and then complain to your Vendor if the performance becomes a problem...;-]
