[Russ: I have added some info since the original. I also modified to
hopefully make more clear. (I have had my coffee now.) Thanks -eddy]

    All;

    Re: MS03-043

Anybody having problems installing this patch? I tried on 4 test boxen
and have one that will not accept the patch. It's a New Windows 2000
Server with SP4 and nothing else on it.

Via Windows Update: Hangs at 100% and never says done. Waited over 12
hours. Reboot and windows update says it failed. Does show up in
    add/remove programs.

Via direct install: Comes up and acts like it goes and completes (I
actually get the complete, click finish button) but if I look at processes
I see update.exe at 99% utilization and another process called
Windows1200-KB8. Also, the box never reboots.

    Reboot, try again, same thing.

Found in add-remove programs. Removed, rebooted, tried again. Same thing.

The box is my most generic box. Out of all of them it should be the easy
    one.

I'm starting to go thru the registry/file structure now and compare to see
    if it is actually there.

[Update: Have another box hanging on it via Windows Update (200SP4 w/
SQL2K). This makes 2 with an attitude. Also, MBSA says that the patch is
installed if you manually reboot the box after the windows update or hand
install. On a possibly related note, my desktop person is trying to use
qchain and chain the latest patch pack together. It also refused to
reboot once done. (Note: Just in, did not verify/try for myself)]

    On a side rant:
    Windows Update suggested 6 patches:
    824141 823182 826232 825119 828035 828750

Windows update stalled on one of them. (Waited 12 hours and finally
rebooted. It was the one mentioned above.)

Went back into windows update and it only offered me 4 to install this time.
    825119 826232 823182 824141

Went into history and it said all 6 failed.

Bad Windows update, no cake for you!

Marcus Ranum's new book "The Myth of Homeland Security" is now out and
is available from http://www.amazon.com/ranum In this hard-hitting
review of the homeland security business, Ranum shows us how the problem
is vastly harder than it's being made to sound, and how special
interests, *** covering, and bureaucracy are threatening to derail any
    chance of making progress.
