    I've had a lot of replies to Ruben's message. Most were either;

    1. MS took it away because of the worm

    2. Why would you give out that address rather than simply telling them to hit "Start/All Programs/Windows Update"?

    3. Open IE, click Tools, Click Windows Update.

    My personal observation is that this URL was easy for customers to remember and type, and its not at all unreasonable for an ISP to adopt it as the link to give out. That said, as Richard Buckingham suggested, it would have been easier for the ISP to put a link to Windows Update on their own page instead given it wasn't the actual URL of Windows Update.

    Other comments;

    Arnt Witteveen said;
    "It's also an invitation for the next virus to take on microsoft.com... What will they do then? Close of microsoft.com??"

    [RC Note: WindowsUpdate.com and www.Microsoft.com have the same number of characters]

    Matthew Bailey said;
    If we write malware/virus to attack the rest of their domain names, will they remove themselves from the Internet completely? Sounds like a rather ill conceived plan to me. Can you say "baby with the bath water"?

    Richard Buckingham said, amongst other good things, said;
    Ill planned? Well of course; I guess it was never previously planned for and was reactionary given the time frame. Let's hope the next attack they do have a better plan for (though I'd like to see how exactly to maintain web site visibility given any well orchestrated DDOS attack.)
