    I don't know if this applies to the problem regarding why the client is
    contacting Windows Update directly or not but it would be consistent with a
    report I had from a Fortune 500 healthcare org that had done some research
    with SuS recently. They concluded that the client was going to Microsoft.com
    when you clicked on Windows Update from IE, instead of the SuS server as
    expected. However, the SuS client was downloading correctly from the SuS
    server when it did it's "scheduled" check/download. If this is so, and I
    want to stress that I have no objective data on that, then it would not be
    hard to imagine that there are two windows update subsystems, the client
    service and the one in IE and that they behave differently. This is
    certainly the case with the WebDAV client and XP/2003 systems.
