Jason-
The logs you provided showed clients attempting to access your SUS
server and post to a FILE named <SERVER SUS
ROOT>/v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/autoupdate/getmanifest.asp. I also
observed this behavior, although the clients are once again requesting
the correct file (<SERVER SUS ROOT>/autoupdate/getmanifest.asp) again
now.
This led me to a few questions...
Why? What caused the clients to attempt to directly access
windowsupdate.microsoft.com instead of my SUS server? What changed the
behavior back?
I went to the source for getmanifest.asp on my SUS server to see what
happens there, and (of course) I find references to windowsupdate.com,
but no explanation for why the clients went astray.
Let's look at that windowsupdate.com question though. The source refers
to www.msus.windowsupdate.com in several different areas. This resolves
to 207.46.197.119, and is still accessible. SUS is able to get catalog
updates, as well as retrieve patches. You may have somewhere (either
yourself, or your ISP) created your own windowsupdate.com root in DNS.
This would prevent you from getting the correct info from MS now.
The last question I have is how MS can say that they disabled the
windowsupdate.com domain, when their DNS servers still respond to
requests. It appears to me (as of 1:15pm EDT) that they have only
removed the host entry for www.windowsupdate.com.
As I finish typing, the latest message from Russ says that others report
all is well too. I guess I was just too slow!

The client logs also show similar messages that reflect "404 File Not
Found" messages.
Anyone else getting similar log messages ?
