Microsoft were kind enough to send me some information about the Front
Page extensions issues reported earlier;

"FPSE 2000 (v4) and FPSE 2002 (v5) webs can coexist on the same server,
but they must be managed with separate admin tools. You must use the
admin snap-in for 2000 webs and the web-based administration pages for
2002 webs. Note that if you have only one virtual server, this will be
automatically upgraded to 2002 by default when installing. If you have
more than one, nothing is upgraded automatically.

I would suggest opening the webs with FrontPage and checking which
version each one is. It sounds like the 2000 web was upgraded to 2002
automatically, which explains why the old admin tools no longer work."

Jason (the original poster) also sent another message to the list;

"Solution: Q319733 - At first I was going to do what some others
suggested and uninstall both versions of the extensions and start from
scratch, then this Q update came out. Before installing it I
uninstalled both versions of the extensions, then installed the update.
At this point it looks like FP2000 extensions are working on all 160
sites who previously used them. The error that was being generated when
extending a site is no longer an issue. I'm still having some
pre-existing issues with 2002, but they're unrelated to the original
posting.

Thanks to all those that replied. Hopefully those of you that were in
the same boat will come up the same findings."
